Job offer was ‘rape lure’

“He later begged her not to report him to the police and promised to get her a job.”

The Jeppe SAPS has arrested two men for separate incidents of rape.

The first suspect was arrested at Derby Road in Betrams on November 7.

Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai said the victim, a 25-year-old woman, alleged that she received an SMS from the suspect.

“The suspect promised her a job and invited her to his house,” Munyai said. “Upon arrival, he welcomed her into his house and took her details. He started to touch her, squeeze her breasts and she told him to stop.”

Munyai said the suspect then forced the woman onto a bed and raped her.

“He later begged her not to report him to the police and promised to get her a job. The victim came to Jeppe SAPS and reported the case. The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with rape and he was detained.”

In the other incident, a 23-year-old woman was raped in Gordon Street in Betrams on November 4.

The victim alleged that she visited her aunt, who said she had friends visiting and told her to go and sleep at a friend’s house.

Munyai said the woman then went to her friend.

“She woke up from a noise of people assaulting a man who was raping her. The man was one of the people who was visiting her aunt. He allegedly followed her when she went to sleep and removed her clothes. The police were called and arrested the suspect,” Munyai said.

The two suspects are expected to appear in court soon. Police investigations are continuing in the meantime.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigators is urged to contact the Jeppe SAPS on 011 624 6042.
