The Grace Jacaranda Run was first held in 2013 as a memorial run and has now become a permanent fixture on the BCC running calendar.

The event has also become a charity drive, with runners donating clothes, toys and food for the Bienvenu Refugee Shelter for mothers and children.

The shelter, situated in Betrams, Johannesburg, aims to provide for the needs of migrants by offering them accommodation, meals, clothes, access to health facilities, education for children and legal assistance.

This year athletes were also asked to donate toiletries for the Epic Foundation to be used in comfort packs for rape victims.
