National stats report a decrease in Yeoville crimes

Overall there was an 18.1 per cent decrease in trio-crimes, 10.1 per cent decrease in contact crimes and a 3.8 per cent decrease in sexual offences.

Yeoville SAPS precinct showed a marked decrease in crimes reported according to the national SAPS crime stats.

Some of the biggest decreases include 41.9 per cent in the number of murders, 75 per cent in attempted sexual assault cases and 36 per cent in car hijacking cases.

Overall there was an 18.1 per cent decrease in trio-crimes, 10.1 per cent decrease in contact crimes and a 3.8 per cent decrease in sexual offences.

Increases in the number of cases for sexual assault were reported at 160 per cent between April 2016 and March 2017.

Robberies at non-residential premises also increased by 23.2 per cent from 56 to 69 cases.

There was also an 18.3 per cent increase in burglaries at non-residential premises.

Yeoville SAPS reported 41 arrests for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and 186 arrests for drug- related crimes.

245 people were also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
