MALVERN– NGO pleads for assistance from the community.

Khanyisani Home Based Care is a non-profit organisation based in Malvern that provides health and social services to impoverished communities in need of assistance.

Khanyisani was established in 2003 by Artwell Dlamini and has been operating in Malvern for over a decade.

It is funded by the Department of Social Development and employs over 30 caregivers.

“When we started in 2003 we were based at Cleveland SAPS, but due to the upcoming major renovations we relocated to where we are situated now behind Malvern Primary School in 2014,” explained Dlamini.

The NGO depends on donations and sponsors to enable them to support communities.

“It’s difficult to run the organisation with no money. We need resources to be able to achieve our full potential in assisting the community,” said Dlamini.

The organisation currently runs from a container office which is shared by 10 clerical and management staff.

Dlamini said they are in need of three more containers, as well as toilets and a gazebo.

“We need more office space because we have people coming in who need counselling and we don’t have enough space. We don’t have proper sanitation facilities. We would really appreciate any donation because it would benefit us,” said Dlamini.

The organisation is also asking for food parcel donations for the underprivileged they help in the area.

“We give food parcels to needy families every month but it’s not enough. There is still a need for more because of the number of families we deal with. We see the need to do more and we would love residents and businesses to assist us,” said Dlamini.

With the festive season around the corner, Khanyisani will be hosting a Christmas party for the orphans and vulnerable children in the area. The NGO is asking residents and business owners in the area to donate Christmas presents.

Anyone wishing to assist can contact the organisation’s secretary Mike van Koningsbruggen on 084 362 7798 or Dlamini on 084 734 7343.
