Edenvale company protects home for abused women and children

Founded in 1989 it is a shelter and a place of rehabilitation and safety for about 55 women and children at any one time.

Edenvale-based FSIB Fire Systems recently installed a fire detection system at Bethany Home for abused women and children in Bertrams.

FSIB Fire Systems was approached by the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon (RCKP) to help provide the system for the home.

FSIB appealed to fellow contractors and suppliers in the Johannesburg area to step up to the plate and donate products and labour towards the system.

Alarms were installed throughout the property with the assistance of Velocity Cable, Tyco, Brigit Fire, Red G, Sizanane 7 and Fire Systems Inspection Bureau.

The alarms serve to alert staff to any problems and also enables them to signal the security company to send assistance when needed.

Founded in 1989, Bethany Home is a shelter and a place of rehabilitation and safety for about 55 women and children at any one time.

In addition to the basics of life and security, each woman is provided with legal assistance, restoration of self-esteem, training for employment as well as education for her children during her period of stay, which typically lasts for 12 months.

Bethany Home was built in the mid-1900s, so substantial and vital refurbishments are well overdue.

RCKP recently embarked on a project to upgrade the buildings. Upgrades will include the renovation of bathrooms and painting.

The dedicated staff at Bethany Home, led by Bridget Edwards, work tirelessly to help those in need.
