Ward 118’s councillor Neuren Pietersen has responded to concerns recently raised by residents of the ward.
In response to business owner Daniel Zitha, who raised concerns about the ward “as a whole”, Pietersen said he does not have contact details for Zitha.
“Malvern, Denver, Cleveland and Kensington are all in a bad state. I last saw the ward councillor in October last year,” Zitha previously told the EXPRESS.
“His name [Zitha] does not appear on my cellphone, which is strange as I record the names of 99 per cent of all calls received,” said Pietersen.
The EXPRESS also previously published a photo of Jumpas community leader Nomphelo Zozo pointing out rubble dumped in Malvern.
“I also find it strange that a community leader from Jumpas walks seven blocks away from where they stay to point out a pile of rubble which was never brought to my attention.
“Residents who have attended my meetings know that I have prioritised the tackling of stored building material and rubble on pavements and if this had been brought to my attention, I would have notified JMPD. It appears that some residents prefer to jump to politicking rather than assisting in getting Malvern right again after so many years of neglect,” said Pietersen.
“Furthermore, ex-councillor Mike Spadino is standing in a ‘KI’ that was repaired about a month ago. And being an ex-councillor he should know who to report the issues to instead of standing in the gutter,” said Pietersen.
In the article previously published in the EXPRESS, it was also reported that Malvern Community Forum spokesperson Mike Spadino said Malvern was deteriorating. He said the dirt and crumbling pavements were dissuading new investors from coming to the suburb.
Pietersen said he has not been presented with a petition.
