A heart-warming relationship

"Helping those in need and giving back t the community is something we all share at De Backery. I hope to continue helping Khanyisa in the years to come,"

Helping those in need and lending a hand is what Mark Verhoogt, from De Backery in Edenvale, is all about.

To say thank you for this helpful nature, Khanyisa Trust recently presented Mark with a certificate of appreciation.

Edenvale’s well-known bakery frequently donates bread to Khanyisa’s soup kitchen.

Mark Verhoogt from De Backery receiving a certificate of appreciation from Dipuo Tekana, manager of Khanyisa Trust.

The certificate was presented to Mark by Dipuo Tekana, manager of the trust.

Mark said the bakery has supported the soup kitchen since it opened.

“We were approached by Khanyisa and asked if we would donate bread. Instead of throwing the unsold bread away, we give it to the soup kitchen,” Mark said.

De Backery tries to donate bread to Khanyisa as often as possible.

“We keep it frozen for them so that they can use the bread at their discretion,” added Mark.

Dipuo thanked Mark for all his support and his help in “spreading the light”.

Besides helping Khanyisa, Mark said he also helps other organisations, such as Little Eden.

“Helping those in need and giving back to the community is something we all share at De Backery. I hope to continue helping Khanyisa in the years to come,” said Mark.
