The Edenvale community will have the opportunity to view the abstract painting styles of Mary Papas.
Mary enrolled for four years advanced painting classes in 1991 and developed and learned various styles from leading professional art teachers.
In addition to the four years of advanced painting classes, Mary underwent three years of abstract art studies.
“When painting, I always have a concept in mind taken from the world around me or from the very deep-set traditions of my Greek culture and history, past and present,” said Mary.
She said her preferred method of painting is with a palette knife.
“I like the clarity of the undiluted buttery texture of the paint and the sharp contrast of the different hues. I sculpture my shapes on two-dimensional surfaces,” said Mary.
The SA artist said a few years ago she had an art exhibition in Europe where people commented on the different styles of the paintings.
Mary will do an art demonstration on September 16 at the Edenvale Community Centre at 1.30pm for 2pm for the Paint & Palette Group.
Community members can look forward to see an abstract painting from Mary’s “City Life” series.
