“Today is our official reopening and at the same time we are dedicating the clubhouse to our former member Stan Sneech and his wife Lorna,” said Evelyn Herzfeld, who is the reigning president of the Lions Club as of July 1.

The official opening of the newly refurbished building was held on July 29 at the Lions Club of Edenvale.

“In November last year during the floods, we had around half a meter of water flooding this building, causing a lot of damage. It took six months, but the clubhouse has been repainted and refloored,” explained Herzfeld.

Sneech is one of the six original founding members of the Lions Club of Edenvale. He gave 48 years of his life to the club.

His son Barry, daughter-in-law Shelley and daughter Adrienne attended the event.

Unfortunately his wife Lorna could not attend because she wasn’t feeling well.

Barry did the honour of unveiling the plaque which will now sit up on the wall of the newly opened clubhouse.

The plaque read: ‘This clubhouse is dedicated to PDG Stan Sneech and Lioness Lorna for their outstanding humanitarian service to Lions and the Edenvale community.’

Barry expressed his gratitude and appreciation.

“I feel fantastic, my mom and dad were involved in helping others, from the Round Table to the Lions Club, and they were very passionate,” he said.

Adrienne said it was a great honour and the spirit of her father will live on.

She read a speech written by her mother.

Lions and lionesses are seen here with the Sneech family. They are Lionel Chazen, Karen Lurie, president Evelyn Herzfeld, Lara de Wet, Linda Errington, Leon Capon, Adrienne, Shelley and Barry Sneech. In front are husband and wife Karina and David Haynes.
