Jeppe SAPS arrest 69 people

JOBURG – Some of them paid fines and bail while others remain in police custody due to further investigation,

The Joburg SAPS East Cluster arrested 69 suspects from July 19 to 26.

The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from murder, robbery, theft and rape.

The Joburg SAPS cluster is made up of seven police stations including Cleveland SAPS, Jeppe SAPS, Hillbrow SAPS, Rosebank SAPS, Parkview SAPS, Norwood SAPS and Yeoville SAPS.

The arrests included:

• Six were arrested for common assault.

• One was arrested for fraud.

• Three were arrested for malicious damage to property.

• One was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms.

• Five suspects were arrested for possession of stolen goods and drugs.

• One suspect was arrested for rape.

• Two were arrested for murder.

• Seven were arrested for shoplifting and one for theft.

• Four were arrested for common robbery and one for house robbery.

• Two were arrested for house break-in and theft and three for common robbery.

• Five motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving.

• One suspect was arrested for impersonating a police officer and one for robbery and attempted murder.

• 15 were arrested for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one after a hit-and-run.

Jeppe SAPS spokesperson, Capt Richard Munyai, said most of the suspects appeared at Jeppe Magistrate’s Court and others are yet to appear in court.

“Some of them paid fines and bail while others remain in police custody due to further investigation,” he said.
