According to Jeppe police spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai, a 74-year-old man alleged he was at his house when he noticed the main gate was open and saw two men approaching. They were wearing reflector jackets.

They told the victim that they were from City Power and he let them inside the house.

“Once inside the house, one of them took out a firearm and pointed it at him. They ordered him to lie down and they went to the bathroom, where they took a safe,” said Munyai.

Munyai said the victim later heard the sound of a truck stopping outside.

“He heard a man shouting, telling his accomplices to leave the safe as there was a police van approaching. The victim stood up and went to check if his wife and their domestic worker were not hurt, but the domestic worker was nowhere to be found,” he said.

They tried to phone her but her phone was off.

“Laptops, cellphones and expensive cosmetics were left behind as the suspects could not take them with the safe.”

Munyai said a case of attempted house robbery was opened and was investigated until the domestic worker was arrested in connection with the incident.

She is expected to appear in court soon while police investigations continue.

The male suspects are still on the run.
