Taxi drivers frustrated

YEOVILLE – The Station Commander Colonel Lubisi Motaung told people that it is important that a stance is taken to prevent further attacks and to maintain the long fruitful relationship in crime fighting and to avoid people being convicted on crimes that could have been prevented.

Meter taxi drivers and owners recently expressed their frustrations during a Yeoville Police Station meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to address the recent violent cases that have been reported at the police station regarding attacks on Uber, meter operating taxi drivers and associates.

The station commander Colonel Lubisi Motaung told people it is important to prevent further attacks and to avoid committing crimes which could actually be prevented.

“Taxi owners said they felt that Uber drivers receive more protection. According to them such drivers are taking food from their mouths. They feel these drivers are trespassing on their territory without any regulations,” said Yeoville police spokesman, Captain Sifiso Mabizela.

Mabizela said Yeoville SAPS requested drivers to refrain from provoking and committing crimes.

“We further urge members of the public to always take descriptions of the vehicles they board,” he said.
