BEZVALLEY– Life experience inspires a woman to help others.

Children’s Care Foundation is a non-profit organisation for underprivileged, abused children and women in Bezvalley and is in need of donations.

The foundation was started by Mary Elbadry who herself has a background of abuse. She was physically abused by her stepfather and her sister.

She said after seeing the need in the area she knew she had to do something.

She added that starting the NGO was a calling. “I prayed about starting the organisation because I kept on seeing all the abuse happening around me. I was not working and I asked myself how I can help the underprivileged and abused.”

Life has not been kind to Elbadry but that did not kill her spirit of helping others. “Life was not easy bouncing from one family to another. Sleeping in the street and under bridges. It was difficult.” At the tender age of four she already knew street life.

Because of her life experience, she wants to help those in need as she does not want another person to have such a difficult life. She said,”Poverty and abuse are painful, and seeing families suffering pains me because my family experienced the same and I know how it can affect a family.”

The NGO is only two years old and she said it has not been easy to fulfil her work because of a lack of resources. “My wish is to buy a property where I can open a home for abused women and children.

“Currently, I just provide them with groceries and support because I don’t have proper accommodation for them.”

She said her strength comes from her Christian faith, which has enabled her to help with the little she has. Elbadry said she also plans to provide counselling to abused women and children and help them get their lives together.

She said, “When you come from an abusive environment you need the support of people who can help you get back on your feet, and many don’t have that – I want to offer that safe haven.”

Children’s Care Foundation is in need of the following items:

  •  School shoes, stationery, school bags and hygiene packs for children at the different schools in the area
  •  Food
  •  Clothing
  •  Soap, toothpaste and body lotion.

“We will appreciate any donation so much,” said Elbadry.
