The St Benedict’s Gathering took place on July 15 at St Benedict’s College in Bedfordview.

The gathering was not only about pipers and drummers – there was plenty to enjoy for the revellers, including dancing, a craft market and a beer tent.

Rory Bellingan, vice president for the Pipe Bands South Africa, set the record straight after it was announced on Saturday that the South African Irish were placed second overall in Grade 3.

“Unfortunately, this was incorrect as they placed third overall and the Transvaal Scottish placed second.

“This error was a result of a tie for second place where both bands were equal in points on Ensemble, Piping and Drum Corps. The tie had to be broken on the highest MSR result achieved on the day, which was the Transvaal Scottish. My sincere apologies to the two bands concerned for the incorrect announcement on the day,” said Bellingan.

The African Skye Pipe Band took part in the St Benedict’s Pipe Band Gathering.
