It was a freaky Friday in Greenstone when three suspects were shot during a shootout with the police.
The incident took place on Greenstone Drive near Greenstone Ridge complex.
It is alleged that the suspects, aged 29, 30 and 37, were about to commit a crime.
The suspects have been in hospital since Friday afternoon.
Following medical treatment in hospital under police guard, the three will face charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of hijacked motor vehicle.
When the NEWS arrived on the scene, the Mercedes Benz stood idling with three of its doors opened. There were bloody items of clothing and shoes scattered on the road, as well as a set of keys and lighter.
Police had cordoned off the scene, and there were chalk marks around cartridges.
“Information received said a Mercedez A180 was roaming the Greenstone area. The vehicle was tested and a positive result for hijacking was received. Detectives in private clothing and unmarked vehicles from the crime intelligence unit and Gauteng Traffic Police located the vehicle and followed it,” explained Mapulane.

The station commander said the vehicle had been hijacked in Brackendowns in June this year.
He added that the three suspects were allegedly following an elderly couple driving a Toyota Prado from a nearby shopping complex.

A chopper was dispatched to the scene and the suspects were cornered on Greenstone Drive.
“When the suspects noticed they were being followed by the police, they opened fire. Police officers retaliated and a shootout ensued.”
“All three suspected were shot and sustained minor injuries,” Mapulane said.
Mapulane said no police officers were injured.
“Two firearms were recovered from the scene. The three suspects are all from Alexandra.”
