Provincial Investigative Unit investigates Park Meadows ATM bombings

JOBURG – Provincial Investigative Unit is investigating two ATM bombings.

The Provincial Investigative Unit is investigating two South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) ATM bombings.

This comes after two Park Meadows Shopping centre’s ATMs were bombed on 1 July. According to the spokesperson for Cleveland Police Station Captain Johan Jordaan, five armed suspects with automatic rifles and handguns bombed the two ATMs.

“They went into [a grocery store] through the delivery entrance and held up the security guard and personnel. They assaulted the guard and some of the personnel,” said Jordaan.

He said two of the suspects went to two Sassa ATMs in the store and placed explosives in them. “Within seconds they exploded and the thugs stole an undisclosed amount of money. They then ran out [they way they came in] and fled the scene in a Blue Audi S3.

“Cleveland police responded and sealed off the crime scene after the robbery. Expert investigators and forensics personnel immediately combed the scene for any information and evidence that might lead to the arrest of the suspects,” he said.
