Jeppe police arrested eight men for possession of unlicensed firearms on 2 July, following a tip-off.
Spokesperson for Jeppe Police Station, Captain Richard Munyai said at about 11.30pm, police received information about men who were driving around in a Toyota Quantum.
“The men were apparently travelling from KwaZulu-Natal coming to Gauteng after allegedly committing a gruesome crime there,” Munyai said.
According to police, the men allegedly attacked a family and further killed livestock in KwaZulu-Natal.
“The police sent a lookout and the vehicle was spotted on Princess Street in Jeppestown and our officers stopped it. The Quantum had eight occupants and upon searching the vehicle, the police confiscated two firearms, a revolver with three live rounds and a 9mm pistol with two live rounds and an extra magazine.”
He said the 9mm pistol’s serial number was filed off.
All the suspects, aged between 23 and 36 and believed to be related, were arrested and detained at Jeppe Police Station.
“They will appear in court soon as police investigations are continuing.”
