JOBURG – Residents of Malvern and surrounding areas celebrated Youth Day at Cleveland Police Station.

The Cleveland Community Policing Forum in conjunction with Cleveland police, Metro police and local security companies hosted a Youth Day event on 24 June at Cleveland Police Station.

Residents from Malvern and surrounding areas attended the event. The purpose of the day was to create awareness of violence against women and children, including assaults, domestic violence, murder, abuse, rape and human trafficking, in the Cleveland policing area.

Cleveland Community Policing Forum chairperson, Godfrey Mothibe thanked everyone who took part in the event. “I have lost words in trying to thank everyone for a stunning event that they put together,” said Mothibe.

He also thanked the spokesperson for Cleveland Police Station, Captain Johan Jordaan for his outstanding efforts in making the event a success.

Jordaan said, “It was an honour to be part of the event. Women in the community worked very hard to ensure the event was catered for and made it a day to remember. Children were very happy to be part of the event. It is important that children know their basic human rights.”

At the end of the event, Mothibe handed out carry bags and crime awareness pamphlets to children so that they know who to call and what to do when someone assaults or commits any act of violence against them.
