Suspects nabbed by Metro for possession of unlicensed firearms

JOBURG – Four suspects are expected to appear in court after they were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department officials arrested four suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms at the corner of Albertina Sisulu Road and Allum Street in Bruma on 23 June.

According to the spokesperson for Cleveland Police Station Captain Johan Jordaan, officials were conducting crime prevention patrols in the Cleveland policing precinct when they spotted a silver VW Golf. “Officials stopped the car and searched the suspects. They found three firearms [one revolver and two pistols] with ammunition in their possession. The serial numbers of the firearms were filed off,” said Jordaan.

Jordaan said the four suspects had allegedly planned burglaries in the Cyrildene and Bruma areas. “The four were arrested and detained at Cleveland Police Station. They will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of a possible stolen vehicle,” he said.

The suspects will appear in court soon while police investigations continue.
