Three injured in random shootings in Doornfontein and Berea, police investigate

Three people were injured in two separate random shooting incidents in Doornfontein and Berea on 11 June.

The motives for the shootings are still unknown.

Hillbrow Police Station confirmed that at about 6.30pm, several shots were fired at the intersection of Nugget and Beit streets in Doornfontein, injuring two people, while another person was shot in Berea minutes later.

“At about 6.30pm, two men were [allegedly] shot at as they were walking home. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to the lower body. The victims were both heading in different directions when the incident occurred,” said Hillbrow Police Station Commander, Brigadier Stanley Nevhuhulwi.

“At about 6.40pm, another person was [allegedly] shot in the lower body [on the corner of] Tudhope and Abel streets in Berea.

“All three victims were transported to the Charlotte Maxeke [Johannesburg] Academic Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.”

After launching an investigation, police said the two incidents are related.

The suspects are still at large.
