Air conditioner thieves sentenced

JOBURG – Jeppe Magistrates' Court sentenced two men who stole an air conditioner.

Jeppe Magistrates Court sentenced Sbusiso Vilakazi to three years imprisonment and Sipho Mbonani to two years imprisonment for the theft of an air conditioner on 7 June.

The two were arrested on 5 December last year after they stole the air conditioner from a business in Jules Street, Malvern. “They sold it to a scrap metal dealer. The owner searched for his air conditioner, found it at the scrap dealer and phoned the police,” said Cleveland police spokesperson Captain Johan Jordaan.

Jordaan said officials from Cleveland Police Station investigated the complaint and found information about the two suspects at the second-hand scrap dealer. “All the information was written in the second-hand goods register as well as the item which they sold to the dealer. The two were arrested for theft and taken to Cleveland Police Station where they were detained,” he said.
