According to the spokesperson for Cleveland Police Station, Captain Johan Jordaan, the officer was driving in the vicinity, when, on the corner of Chilvers Street and Astron Road, an armed man with two accomplices pointed a firearm at him. One of the suspects opened the car’s door and turned off the ignition while another suspect fired a shot. “They then searched him and robbed him of his cellphone and cash. The suspects fled the scene,” said Jordaan.

After the incident, the policeman stopped a colleague who was on duty, patrolling not far from where the incident occurred. Jordaan said the on-duty officer saw three suspects running on the railway lines towards George Koch Railway Station and gave chase. “He apprehended one suspect and arrested him.”
