More celebs fall victim to crime in Johannesburg

JOBURG – Miss SA 2017 is, unfortunately, not the only famous South African to have fallen victim to a harrowing incident of robbery.

Crime is rife in South Africa and celebrities fall victim to a multitude of crimes, just like the rest of us.

This week, headlines broke of the new Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters who was a victim of an attempted hijacking that took place in Hyde Park on Jan Smuts Avenue, outside Hyde Park Corner shopping centre.

Unfortunately, she is not the only celebrity to become a crime statistic in South Africa.

  • Who can forget, just a couple of years ago, when Nigerian superstar, Davido was robbed of his two Rolex watches while walking the streets of Sandton? No stranger to the richest square mile in Africa, the singer was under the impression that he was safe. In addition to his Rolex watches, he was also shaken down for US$55 000, which at the time was valued at R791 000.
  • Another crime statistic is the beautiful Shashi Naidoo, who is best known for her acting and her banging model bod. In 2014 she reported a case of robbery and attempted sexual assault as unidentified men made their way into her home and attempted to rape her. Luckily the actress escaped unscathed.
  • From Generations to Muvhango, Florence Masebe is well known for her acting skills. It’s lesser known that the actress was shot more than 26 times outside her Bramley home in 1999 – a tragic incident that she miraculously survived.
  • Another Generations actress, Katlego Danke was a victim of a violent crime in 2007. It was outside the SABC where the actress was robbed of her handbag and stabbed in the head during a scuffle.

During this difficult time for Miss SA 2017, she’s not the only one who has suffered. Former 50/50 presenter, Johann Botha was killed during a robbery in Jeppestown, Johannesburg, just a few days ago.
