A total of 17 people were arrested in recent weekend operations conducted by Sebenza SAPS.

The charges of those arrested included possession of dagga, driving under the influence, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, house break-in, theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.

Sebenza SAPS communications officer Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso said one of the suspects was arrested after they received a tip-off.

“We received a tip-off from a mother who said she found dagga in her son’s school bag. When the mother asked where he got it from, he said his friend asked him to keep it for him,” said Tsotsotso.

The mother called the police, who came and questioned the boy (16).

“He confessed that he and his friends, who attend the same school in Kempton Park, smoke dagga and they buy it at a house on Zuurfontein Road,” said Tsotsotso.

She said they went to the house and found a man in his late twenties.

“We asked for permission to search the house and found packets of dagga. He confessed to selling the dagga for a living as there are no jobs,” said Tsotsotso.

The man was arrested and charged for dealing in dagga. He appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on June 5.
