Winter knights collect food

"It wouldn’t have been possible without everyone involved."

On May 27 the Knights of Edenvale 63 Round Table held a food drive at the Meadowdale Mall.

The food drive was part of Round Table Southern Africa’s national project called Winter Knights Campaign

Some of the donated food being distributed to to a shelter for people in need. On May 27 the Knights of Edenvale 63 Round Table held a food drive and collected food for the needy.

Shoppers were given R1 as a contribution towards their monthly grocery shopping and in return were asked to buy a non-perishable food items.

The food items which included tinned meals and soup packets could be dropped into marked trolleys.

The project which was a first for the Edenvale 63 Round Table exceeded the club members expectations.

Project convener for the day, Daniel Lambie, said he was anxious going into it as he was not sure of the response they were likely to receive.

Daniel said the knights collect an estimated R15 000 in non-perishable food items.

“The response was terrific,” said Daniel

A community member making a donation to the Knights of Edenvale 63 Round Table food drive held on May 27.

Later, on the evening of May 27 the knights delivered over 100 parcels containing the non-perishable food items as well as blankets and clothing also collected.

The donations were made to those in need around Edenvale, Kensington, Bedfordview and Kempton Park.

David Costine, chairperson of Edenvale 63 Round Table said he was reminded how lucky he was when he saw how some people were living with nothing to eat and nothing to even sleep on or keep warm with.

David said he was happy that the table could help make their lives easier through a full stomach and warm blanket.

Edenvale 63 Round Table would like to thank the shoppers and citizens of Edenvale for amazing support as well as Meadowdale Mall for allowing us to hold the project.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without everyone involved,” said David.
