Mantsoe will know his fate soon

Sandile Mantsoe has been accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend Karabo Mokoena and defeating the ends of justice.

Murder accused Sandile Mantsoe will back in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 9 June when his bail application will be heard.

When the 27-year-old forex trader from Sandton appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 24 May to apply for bail, the case was postponed and he was remanded in custody.

Mantsoe will be charged with premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice after Karabo Mokoena was found dead in Lyndhurst on April 29. Her body was burnt beyond recognition.

Media members made an application to broadcast and report on the bail proceedings in court.

The magistrate ruled that the media was not allowed to broadcast, live-tweet or publish sensitive information presented in court during the bail bid.

The media will, however, be permitted to broadcast and tweet the decision on whether bail would be granted or not.

The court also denied their request to take photos of Mantsoe in court.

Phindi Mjonondwane, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, confirmed that the State will oppose bail in the interest of justice.

“Let’s give the investigation time to be completed before divulging more information on the case. Information will be given in court during the trial,” said Mjonondwane.
