Africa Day celebrated in style

JOBURG – The presence of South African jazz, fusion and mbaqanga musician, Ray Phiri introduced the spirit of Africa to the audience.

As Africa Month came to an end, Bassline closed it off in style with an Africa Day concert on 27 May.

This was the 13th Bassline Africa concert.

The concert continues to grow and has been improving by the year. It brings together artists from different musical backgrounds that most South Africans do not always get to enjoy live on stage.

The concert was hosted by the Department of Arts and Culture in association with Kaya FM and Trace Africa, and featured great African giants such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Baloji from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Bombino. The presence of South African jazz, fusion and mbaqanga musician, Ray Phiri introduced the spirit of Africa to the audience.

The coming together of these African artists emphasised that the citizens of our country can look beyond our social issues and instead embrace our Africanism.
