Born on April 28, 1929 Reverend David Jones died on May 17 at the age of 88.

Jones was the minister of St James Presbyterian Church, Bedfordview, for 34 years.

“He built the congregation from a couple of hundred to over 1 700 members – he was not only involved in the worshipping community but was also active in community events in and around Bedfordview,” said Reverend Gavin Lock from the St James Presbyterian church.

Lock said the reverend not only officiate at weddings and many funerals, but he also spoke at Boy Scout functions and civic events.

“After retirement David ministered in the congregation of St Francis until just a few months ago. For many decades, until recently, he was one of the familiar voices on SAFM’s weekday devotional broadcast, ‘This New Day’,” added Lock.

Jones is survived by his two children Michael, son-in-law Phillipe and Diane.

The funeral service for the Reverend will take place from St James’ Presbyterian Church, Oxford Road, Bedford Gardens on Thursday May 25 from 2pm.
