Yeoville police arrested 44 suspects from 1 May to 8 May for crimes ranging from murder and sexual assault to robbery. The suspects were arrested for the following:
- 3 for murder
- 1 for rape
- 2 for car hijacking
- 4 for sexual assault
- 2 for common robbery
- 7 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
- 2 for common assault
- 1 for defeating the ends of justice
- 12 for driving under the influence of liquor or drugs
- 2 for fraud and bribery
- 4 for shoplifting
- 2 for drinking in public
- 2 possession of drugs.
“The suspects have appeared in different courts and some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remained in prison,” said Yeoville police spokesperson Captain Sifiso Mabizela. Details: Yeoville police station: 011 487 5900.
