Keep feet warm this winter

KENSINGTON – changing lives one sneaker at the time.

Sneaker4Change is again changing lives this winter, one sneaker at a time.

The organisation is running a winter campaign #NoColdFeet aimed at collecting footwear for underprivileged children. Founder of Sneaker4Change Calvin Zulu said “#NoColdFeet is all about giving back to the less privileged.

The drive is not only about warming feet but it’s also about igniting the spirit of overcoming challenges and looking beyond their circumstances.” Sneaker4change was established in 2015, and encourages people to donate sneakers during events they host. Zulu said they chose sneakers because they are a fast-growing social culture among the youth.

“You now can buy personalised sneakers that reflect your personality, and that is pride. Donating a sneaker to a less fortune child can give them a sense of pride,” said Zulu.

They accept sneakers for those aged five to 50. Over the past 10 months, the organisation has handed over 500 pairs to the Twilight Children’s Home, Emmanuel Children’s Home, Skateistan SA, Johannesburg Children’s Home and Barona Children’s Care Centre. In December last year, the organisation was chosen as LeadSA’s youth hero of the month.

To gain momentum for the #NoColdFeet campaign this year, they have chosen young gospel artist, Letlhogonolo Moloi as an ambassador to help spread the word and collect more sneakers. “We create awareness for the less fortunate. We would like to invite the community to join us on our winter drive and keep someone’s feet warm and help them get through winter. It’s the little things we do that can change society,” explained Zulu.
