Addressing a local issue through a musical

KENSINGTON – 'Listen' is a musical all about South African political and social issues.

Jeppe High School for Girls’ drama and music department has written an exciting musical about South African social and political issues called Listen.

This musical is an original piece by Jeppe girls and it carries a message of unity and diversity. The story is set in 2100 with a South Africa that has been ravaged by civil war, famine, drought and disaster.

The people are divided and desperate. The country is starving as it has not rained since 2016 and the situation is perilous as water and food rations run out.

When the village resorts to mob justice and violence, Gogo tells them to seek out the Priestess and the Oracle for spiritual help. The village faces the greatest test of all to survive – they must learn to listen.

The musical will run on 12 and 13 May and 19 and 20 May. The starting time is 6pm.

The Parents’ Association will be host a dinner, snacks and drinks. The coffee shop will be open before and after the show from 6pm to 7pm and 8pm to 9.30pm.

Details: Tickets are R50. Call 011 616 5090 to book.
