Problematic crimes in the Cleveland area

JOBURG – Cleveland police are appealing to the public to be alert.

The Cleveland Police Station would like to alert the community about gate motors, Pikitup bins and more.

The station’s spokesperson Captain Johan Jordaan said residents must not leave any valuables in their vehicles, no matter where they park their car. “When a gate motor is fitted, please ensure that it is done in a way that it cannot be stolen,” he said and urged residents not to leave dustbins outside for unnecessarily long periods of time, especially at night.

“They must not leave dustbins close to a wall as criminals use it to climb over the walls,” said Jordaan, who also advised residents to report their stolen dustbins to the police station so that a case can be opened. “These stolen bins are used to carry away stolen goods. To ensure the chain of evidence in court, it is important that a case is opened for the theft of the bin,” said Jordaan.
