Yeoville police nabbed 51 suspects in one week

JOBURG – 51 suspects are expected to appear in court following their arrests.

Yeoville police arrested 51 suspects from 28 April to 5 May. The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from fraud, robbery and defeating the ends of justice.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 2 for car hijacking
  • 2 for common robbery
  • 9 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
  • 3 for common assault
  • 1 for defeating the ends of justice
  • 19 for driving under the influence of liquor or drugs
  • 1 for fraud and bribery
  • 7 for shoplifting
  • 1 for theft under false pretences
  • 2 for drinking in public
  • 4 for possession of drugs.

“The suspects have appeared in different courts and some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remained in custody,” said Yeoville police spokesperson Captain Sifiso Mabizela.
