Four suspects to appear in court for alleged truck hijacking in Berea

JOHANNESBURG – Johannesburg East Cluster arrests four suspects for allegedly hijacking a truck.

Four suspects are expected to appear in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon for allegedly hijacking a truck on the corner of Lily and Alexandra streets in Berea.

The suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg East Cluster task team on the corner of 16th and Jules streets in Malvern on 29 April.

According to the spokesperson for Jeppe Police Station, Captain Richard Munyai, the suspects allegedly pointed firearms at the driver and drove off with the white Tata truck.

“Police were called and the tracker was activated. It [tracker] showed that the truck was in Malvern. Police proceeded to the address and found the truck,” said Munyai.

The suspects, aged between 29 and 42, were arrested and charged with possession of the hijacked truck.

“They were detained at Cleveland Police Station,” said Munyai.

Munyai said the suspects were wanted for hijacking and business robberies in Hillbrow and Johannesburg central.
