Murderer sentenced to 15 years in jail

JOBURG – Xola Prince Lusiki has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for murder.

The Johannesburg Regional Court sentenced Xola Prince Lusiki to 15 years’ imprisonment after he was convicted of stabbing the late Tebogo Kgoroeaboco on 29 March.

Lusiki stabbed Kgoroeaboco several times with a beer bottle at a tavern on 27 April in 2015. According to Yeoville spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji, detective Sergeant Nicholas Masimini and Captain Nomangaliso Moloi cracked the case and arrested the suspect within 24 hours of receiving the case docket.

“The witness statement was obtained and the tracing of the suspect was conducted until he was located at Hunter Street and apprehended by the two dedicated members of the service,” said Malatji.

He added that the investigating officer received calls offering him money to drop or destroy the case. “Investigating officer Masimini did not succumb. He did his job without fear or favour. In a trial that took more than a year, the investigating officer would receive calls from private numbers offering him money for the particular case to get dropped or to destroy the case. He did his job without fear or favour,” said Malatji.

He said the police station appreciates the effort and commitment of the officers. “We encourage members of the public to come forward with information that could help us solve crimes and we commend our witnesses in this case, and many others, who came to court timeously and ensured perpetrators are brought to book,” concluded Malatji.
