UPDATE: Amputee receives a tea trolley to help her move around her house

KENSINGTON: Community helps pensioner.

Kensington resident Wendy McVie would like to thank the community for responding to her request for a donation for a tea trolley.

The 75-year-old McVie’s story was published on 8 March asking for the community’s help to donate her a tea trolley.

Her left leg was recently amputated and she has difficulty moving around her house with one leg. “After the article was published my phone has been ringing off the hook. People have been offering to help me in any way that I may need,” said McVie.

She said it has been overwhelming for her because she did not expect such a response from her request. McVie said “I have even been called by a school from Orange Groove offering to buy me a tea trolley. The teacher said the children wanted to save their pocket money to raise funds to buy me a trolley. It was touching for me that children are so thoughtful.”

McVie said she received the tea trolley from sister Ann. “I was so pleased to get the trolley that I even forgot to ask her where she was from or even exchange details with her. But I would like to thank her for her kindness. I really appreciate it,” said McVie.

She said she loved her wooden tea trolley because she is able to move around more easily and said it does not take her long to get from her bedroom to the kitchen anymore.
