Kasanga fixed leaks to save water

JOBURG - Kasanga volunteers to fix leaking taps at the Dewetshof retirement village

Clever Kasanga from Buckshot Plumbers and Projects volunteered to repair some of the leaks and plumbing issues at Dewetshof Retirement Village.

Kasanga fixed eight to ten taps that were leaking very badly and there are 20 major ones left.

The Retirement Village’s taps have been leaking for over two years. Kasanga is from Orange Grove and he said he approached Ward 118 councillor Neuren Pietersen after he saw water being wasted due to the leaking taps. “I asked Neuren [Pietersen] to let me know when he is available so that I can come and fix the taps. I want to save water and tax payer’s money by fixing those leaking taps,” said Kasanga.

Ward 118 councillor Neuren Pietersen said he is disappointed that between the Department of Housing, Joburg Property Company, the onsite manager and general workers they allowed some of the taps to leak at this rate for over two years. “A simple act of replacing ten washers has helped somewhat to resolve the problem and I would like to express my gratitude to Kasanga for giving up some of his family time to volunteer to replace the washes,” said Pietersen.
