During the week, April 10 to 17, the Edenvale SAPS arrested 35 suspects.

The arrests were as follows:

21 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Captain Jean Olckers, spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS, said motorists need to be responsible when they consume alcohol.

“When driving your vehicle don’t drink and drive. It is so simple to understand,” said Olckers.

He said the 21 arrests were made over the Easter weekend.

Olckers explained that the arrest made for defeating the ends of justice came after a a false case of an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping was opened at the Edenvale Police Station.

He said the arrest was made by one of Edenvale’s top detectives.

“The detective interviewed the alleged victim and determined that he had lied to the police,” said Olckers.

He added that the fraudulent case was one of several suspicious cases recently opened at Edenvale.

“We will investigate all of the cases.

“It’s an offence to open a false case at the police. Don’t open false cases – real victims need our help not fake ones,” said Olckers.

Olckers said victims should report crimes and suspicious activity to 08600 10111 or 10111.
