Jeppe police arrest three suspects after armed robbery

JOBURG – Three suspects are expected to appear in court in connection with an armed robbery at Kwa Mai Mai.

Jeppe police arrested three men in connection with an armed robbery at Kwa Mai Mai in Jeppestown on 27 March.

According to the police station’s spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai, a 32-year-old man [complainant] was counting money at his business place in Berea Street when he heard a knock on the door. “When he opened the door, he found that it was his friend who asked him for R10. He gave him the R10 and he left. The complainant continued to count the money,” said Munyai.

The complainant heard another knock on the door a bit later and four men opened the door and entered. “Amongst the men was the friend he had just given money to earlier on. The men hit the complainant on the head with an unknown object and took a bag containing R8 000 cash and a Nedbank card,” said Munyai.

The complainant’s neighbours heard him screaming and came to his rescue. They apprehended one of the suspects while the other three fled the scene. “Police [officials] were called and they managed to trace two other suspects and arrested them,” said Munyai.

Munyai said the fourth suspect is still at large. “The arrested suspects, aged 25, 27 and 32, were detained at the Jeppe Police Station and will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon. Police investigations are continuing,” said Munyai.
