Celebrating a century of doing good

Rotarians, Friends of Rotary and guests were invited to the special cheese and wine evening to celebrate the auspicious occasion.

The Rotary Club of Bedfordview held a celebration at the Belgravia Bowling Club, Bedfordview, on April 4.

In June, Rotary International will celebrate 100 years of serving, positively changing lives and doing good in the world, and festivities were in honour of this great milestone.

Rotarians, Friends of Rotary and guests were invited to the special cheese and wine evening to celebrate the auspicious occasion.

Rotarian Ferdi Heyneke said they were privileged to celebrate a century of service of the Rotary Foundation, a recognised organisation worldwide.

“The success of Rotary Foundation would not have been possible were it not for the generous donations made by Rotarians and donors around the world,” said Heyneke.

Rotarian and Foundation Chair Greg Stathacopoulos addressed the club during the festivities and thanked President Alan Rock for the opportunity to talk about an organisation that means so much to all Rotary members.

The Rotary Foundation was started in 1917 and the Endowment Fund received its first funds in 1929. It was only after the death of the Rotary International founder, Paul Harris in 1947, that money really started to come into the fund. The funds have been spent on various projects and programs to transform lives and communities across the globe.

The evening ended with a “100 years of Foundation” cake.
