Community member fights back against possible hijackers

"The victim sustained no injuries and acted in self defence."

On the evening of April 6, a community member took a stand against possible hijackers.

Capt Jean Olckers, spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, said the community member fired shots at the would-be attackers after he arrived home in sector 3.

“It’s alleged that the resident arrived home and noticed a suspicious white vehicle stop. The resident then saw an armed suspect get out of the vehicle and approach him,” said Capt Olckers.

Olckers said the resident fled into his property.

“The suspect fired shots at the resident who in turn shot back at the suspect to defend himself,” said Olckers.

They fled the scene in their white getaway car.

“The victim sustained no injuries and acted in self defence. A case of attempted murder and attempted hijacking will be investigated,” said Olckers.

He added that the white vehicle was later found abandoned.

Olckers urged residents to be alert when arriving and leaving home.

Olckers thanked everyone involved for their assistance.
