Little Eden, 50 years of caring

"The society is built on three core values; respect, sanctity of life and, love and care."

2017 marks the 50th birthday for the Little Eden Society.

On April 5, the society held a breakfast to say thank you to the community for all the support provided to the society.

Guests were treated to a tour of the Edenvale home, a breakfast and a presentation about the society.

Ms Nichollette Muthige, the public relations and communications officer of the society, gave the presentation.

In the presentation she told the audience the history and importance of the society.

“The society is built on three core values; respect, sanctity of life and, love and care,” said Muthige.

She said staff members and volunteers ensure the values are followed and the best care is provided to the residents of society.

The care provided by the society is made available by donations from businesses and the public.

It costs the society R11 000 to care for a resident for one month and only 32 percent of the required funding is provided by the South African government.

Muthige said the Edenvale and Bapsfontein homes the society cares for 300 residents.

“If we stop asking the community and businesses for funds we will not be able to care for the residents,” said Muthige.
