According to the spokesperson for the Bedfordview SAPS, Captain André de Jager, two suspects entered a home on Bothma Road and pointed a firearm at the home owner who had been working from his home office.

“The suspects demanded money. The complainant gave them his wallet after which they demanded that he take them to where the safe was,” said Capt De Jager.

He said the victim led them to the main bedroom and showed them the safe.

“He told them the keys to the safe were with his wife who was not home at the time. The suspects ransacked the bedroom taking jewellery. They then took him to the liquor room where two more suspects were waiting for him. They demanded he open a safe they saw there,” he said.

Capt De Jager said the man pretended to be opening the safe and pressed his panic button, alerting reaction officers to his emergency.

He said the complainant’s wife came into the house and told him the police were on the way.

“The suspects dropped their loot and tried to run away, but two were cornered and arrested. A firearm with nine rounds of ammunition was recovered. The other two suspects escaped,” said Capt De Jager.

He said when the police questioned the two suspects, they confessed that they had been invited to the property by the victim’s three employees.

“The employees were arrested on the spot,” said Capt De Jager.

He said the suspects are between the ages of 29 and 65.

“They were detained at the Germiston SAPS and appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court,” he said.

He said the matter was remanded for the bail application.

“Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the other two suspects,” said Capt De Jager.
