South Gauteng High Court to sentence Rhodes Park criminals

JOBURG – Justice will finally be served for the Rhodes Park victims.

Justice will finally be served for the Rhodes Park victims.

Today, the South Gauteng High Court will be sentencing the men responsible for the brutal rape of two women and the horrific murder of their husbands that took place at Rhodes Park in October 2015.

On Tuesday, Thabo Nkala, Admore Ndlovu and Mduduzi Mathibela were found guilty of murder, rape and robbery.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba said, “We trust that the South Gauteng High Court, in its wisdom, will hand down a sentence that is just, fair and appropriate for the brutality of the crimes committed. We will not allow criminals in this great city of ours to be secure in comfort, while our law abiding citizens are subjected to terror.”

In regards to safety measures going forward, Mashaba conveyed that they would be allocating R31 million to the Department of Public Safety. “The funds will go into the recruitment of an additional 1 500 new JMPD officers to help us in our fight against crime. This will increase the visibility of law enforcement officers in our communities,” said Mashaba.

In addition to this, the MMC for Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba announced that the newly installed CCTV cameras at Rhodes Park would help combat criminal activity in the area. “This will be done without compromising the rights of our residents to enjoy the city’s public spaces,” Sifumba said.
