Police successes of the week for the Joburg East cluster

JOBURG – 184 suspects are expected to appear in court in connection with various crimes

The Joburg East Cluster arrested 184 suspects from 20 to 26 March.

The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from rape and possession of unlicensed firearms to attempted murder.

The cluster is made up of seven police stations, namely, Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville.

The arrests were for the following:

  • 2 suspects arrested for attempted murder
  • 3 suspects arrested for rape
  • 13 arrested for common assault
  • 21 for assault to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH)
  • 12 for theft
  • 33 for drinking and driving
  • 2 for possession of unlicensed firearms
  • 16 for possession of dagga
  • 3 for fraud
  • 9 for malicious damage to property
  • 5 for possession of suspected stolen property
  • 10 for shoplifting
  • 2 for armed robbery
  • 2 for business robbery
  • 16 illegal immigrants arrested
  • 3 for possession of stolen motor vehicles
  • 2 warrants of arrest
  • 4 for robbery
  • 1 possession of counterfeit money
  • 1 for possession of counterfeit DVDs
  • 5 for possession of copper
  • 1 for perjury
  • 2 for dealing in dagga
  • 3 for attempted robbery
  • 1 for hit and run
  • 3 for intimidation
  • 1 for crimen injuria
  • 1 for negligent loss of a firearm
  • 4 for possession of ammunition
  • 3 for possession of dangerous weapons.

“The suspects have appeared in different courts and some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remained in prison,” said Jeppe police spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai.
