Yeoville police officers arrest 36 suspects for various crimes in the area

YEOVILLE – 36 suspects are expected to appear in court for committing multiple crimes.

Yeoville police officers arrested 36 suspects from 13 to 20 March.

The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from murder, kidnapping and common robbery.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 1 for murder
  • 3 for attempted murder
  • 1 for house robbery
  • 1 for housebreaking and theft
  • 2 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 1 for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition
  • 2 for possession of stolen property
  • 2 for possession of housebreaking implements
  • 3 for common robbery
  • 3 for common assault
  • 1 for dealing in drugs
  • 2 for driving under the influence of liquor or drugs
  • 1 for possession of drugs
  • 1 for theft
  • 2 for selling liquor without a licence
  • 1 for contravention of the copyright act
  • 2 for malicious damage to property
  • 1 for contempt of court
  • 1 for fraud
  • 5 for shoplifting.

“The accused have appeared in different courts and some have paid their fines, while others are out on bail and others remain in prison,” said Yeoville Police Station spokesperson, Captain Sifiso Mabizela.
