Raising funds while dancing

MALVERN – Oodles of talent and fun at Malvern Methodist Church.

The Malvern ballroom dance group held their concert on 11 March at the Methodist Church in Malvern. The concert was all about the youth showcasing their talent and raising funds for the dance group.

“I’m happy that the day is finally here. We have been preparing and we would like to thank the community for coming and supporting us,” said Gugulethu Sangweni, founder of the group.

Sangweni said she wants the group to grow and would like to see young people make a career out of their talent. The day included different dances including ballroom, Sarafina, traditional dancing, tin dancing and also poetry.

The group was established in 2014. “The group has given the children a sense of responsibility. When you look at where they were when they joined the group, you can see the difference. They have developed confidence and pride in themselves and in what they are doing. To see them perform for their parents and the community shows how dedicated they are,” she said.

Sangweni thanked her team, Zuzile Dlamini, Rosslyn Cassidy and Nomusa Ndlalane for their support and hard work to make the day a success.
