Man murdered for breaking door lock in Jeppestown

JEPPESTOWN – Two suspects are expected to appear in court facing murder charges.

Jeppe police arrested two men in connection with a murder at Jeppe Hostel in Jeppestown on 4 March.

According to Jeppe police spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai, officers received a tip-off and proceeded to the scene where they found a man lying dead outside one of the blocks of the hostel. “On preliminary investigations, [officers] were told that the deceased was drinking beer with other men,” said Munyai. “The deceased then stood up to open the door and, while opening it, the door lock broke. Two of the men got angry and started to assault him. They allegedly beat him up with fists and chairs until he lost consciousness. [It is claimed that] when he was motionless they threw him out of the window.”

Paramedics certified him dead at the scene.

The suspects, aged 27 and 32 were arrested and taken to Jeppe Police Station where they were detained and charged with murder.

“They will appear in court soon while police investigations are continuing,” said Munyai.
