110 suspects nabbed

JOHANNESBURG – Officers at various police stations have been busy making arrests.

The Johannesburg East Cluster arrested 110 suspects from 27 February to 3 March.

The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and rape.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 6 for murder
  • 1 for rape
  • 8 for assault common
  • 9 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 1 for theft
  • 33 for driving under the influence
  • 2 for possession of unlicensed firearms
  • 6 for possession of drugs
  • 2 for fraud
  • 2 for malicious damage to property
  • 3 for possession of suspected stolen property
  • 4 for shoplifting
  • 3 for armed robbery
  • 3 for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 for business robbery
  • 5 illegal immigrants arrested
  • 1 for trespassing
  • 9 for public violence and business break-ins
  • 4 for possession of stolen motor vehicles
  • 2 for possession of hijacked motor vehicles
  • 1 for truck hijacking
  • 1 for theft out of a motor vehicle
  • 3 for warrant of arrest
  • 1 for reckless and negligent driving.

“The suspects have appeared in different courts and some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remain in prison,” said the spokesperson for Jeppe Police Station, Captain Richard Munyai.

The cluster is made up of seven police stations including Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville police stations.
