The Rhodes Park Walkers take back Rhodes Park one stride at a time

KENSINGTON – Residents take back Rhodes Park.

The Rhodes Park Walkers are doing so to encourage the community to utilise Rhodes Park.

“It’s such a beautiful park and it’s a shame that people are not coming to the park and appreciating the beauty.

“We started the group to encourage people to come and walk their dogs, take a jog or just bird-watch,” said member and Kensington resident, Gail Wilson.

The group said they did not want to allow the murder of the two men who were assaulted, tied up and thrown into the lake to stain the park’s beauty. Wilson said she had been walking every single day in the park since the incident.

“It was tragic what happened in the park, but we had to mourn and find peace and find the beauty of the park again and taking these walks with our furry friends has made us enjoy the park again.”

Wilson added that the group currently consisted of about 30 members who meet on Wednesdays at 4.30pm and on Fridays at 3pm. “We have become good friends as Rhodes Park Walkers, and we plan to introduce other activities in the park so that we utilise it to its full potential.

“We would also like to invite other residents who want to join our WhatsApp group to find out when we are walking, even if you want to walk during the day, the group is up for that.”

The group will host a picnic on 10 March at 3pm in Rhodes Park at the kiddies area. “We invite residents to come along and to bring their picnic baskets while enjoying the beautiful park.”
